A lake like no other...

Lake Weissensee - a paradise for anglers

With its 6.5 km² surface area, 22 fish species and depths of up to 99 meters, Lake Weissensee is a real hotspot for anglers. There are no area boundaries here – you can fish the whole lake. From your own fishing jetty at the Kärntnerhof to a rented boat, all options are open to you.

Lake Weissensee is not only one of the clearest lakes in the Alps, but also one of the most sustainable. Fishing here follows clear rules and closed seasons in order to preserve the delicate balance of flora and fauna.

Thanks to the depth and excellent water quality, pike, big carp, shimmering perch, whitefish and more live here. Night fishing is permitted, and those with a valid fishing license can also try their luck at sunset or dawn.

You can buy fishing licenses at the Weissensee Information.

Quiet adventure on the frozen lake

Ice hole fishing on Lake Weissensee

When the ice is thick enough, a special door opens for winter anglers: ice-hole fishing. In the middle of the glistening natural ice surface, a silent world is created in which only the crunching of the snow, your breath under your hat and the gentle tapping of the ice cover can be heard.

Please note: Ice hole fishing is an experience that requires responsibility. There are special safety rules that you must adhere to.

  • Only use special ice augers
  • Mark & secure drill holes
  • Keep your distance from paths & lanes
  • Close the ice holes again after fishing

You can get all the information about equipment, zones, closed seasons and maps directly from us or from the Weissensee Information Office.Cozy rooms & apartments and hot drinks to warm you up are available at the Kärntnerhof.
